As 2013 comes to an end we take a look back at the news and changes that happened at Desert Canyon GC!
Bunker Renovation – In 2013 we had one of the biggest renovation projects ever here at the course. During the summer we completely rebuilt all of the bunkers on the golf course. This means that they got reshaped to remove those annoying fingers from the inside of the bunker. In addition to the new shape, new drainage and liners were added to eliminate any standing water from our irrigation and thunderstorms. If you have played the course since we reopened from overseeding, the biggest thing you have noticed is the new sand in our bunkers actually allowing you to use the bounce on your wedge! While we were working on our bunkers, we also leveled a lot of tee boxes on our front 9.
Winter Wonderland – During the winter of 2013 we had our very own winter wonderland. On February 20th we had snow fall on our course for the first time in a very long time. It only stayed around for 30 minutes or so, but no one can say it doesn’t get cold here!
Club Card Update – For our members in 2013 we added a new element to the program, Free 1 Hour Clinics. Since October we have had two member clinics every month. The first clinic is on the driving range to work on your driver and irons and the second takes place on our putter green by the first tee box to work on your short game. These are completely free for Club Card holders and have a 20 member limit. The loyalty program also received a facelift. You now receive a point for every dollar you spend in the pro shop or in the DC Bar & Grill. These points add up to gift cards, which can be used towards golf, merchandise, food in the bar or your Club Card renewal!
Desert Canyon Cup – In 2012 we brought back the Ryder Cup tournament from the late 90s and early 2000s. We renamed it the Desert Canyon Cup. After an exciting first year, the 2013 DC Cup grew by adding one more team to the event, making a total of 6 country’s (teams) competing. Team USA, Germany, Poland, Italy, Ireland, and Sweden were part of the event. It came down to the final two matches and Team Sweden won the DC Cup for the second straight year!
